Problem Solving - for Sewing Kits

Very occasionally people encounter problems and this usually happens when the instructions aren't followed carefully. It can be frustrating - but don't worry, we're here to help. If the following items don't solve your problem please give us a call - we all make our own shoes and will be happy to talk you through any difficulties you have.

Problem
There's not the same number of holes in the sole as in the uppers.
Solution
Check you've got the inner side with a 'V' notch and the outerside with a flat bottom edge. (You've most likely used 2 inside sides R2&L2 or 2 outside sides R4 &L4 instead of R2 and R4). Also check that you have the heel piece the correct way up.

Problem
The collar seems too long
Solution
Check you haven't missed a hole in the upper by lifting the edge of the collar all the way around and checking for a spare hole. Each hole should have 2 threads through.

Problem
The collar seems too short
Solution
Check you haven't used the corner hole in the upper which is the first hole for the apron.

Problem
The shoe looks twisted
Solution
Check you have the correct apron fitted and not left apron on right shoe
Also check you have started in the corner hole of the upper, and not missed a hole in the upper when attaching the apron. Each hole in the upper should have 2 threads through.

Problem
There's a different number of holes in the upper to the apron.
Solution
Check you're using the correct side pieces and you haven't missed a hole somewhere.

Problem
I've had to unpick and have run out of thread
Solution
We can always supply an extra thread card in the colours of your choice - see Spares & Repairs section.

Problem
I've run out of one colour thread
Solution
You've probably used one colour for the whole shoe rather than the matching colour for the sole. No problem we can supply extra thread cards - see Spares & Repairs section.

Problem
The insole seems shorter than the sole before I've made up the shoe.
Solution
This is correct and takes into account the thickness of the leather all the way around the sole.
