This uses a simple running stitch to join the inside and outside pieces of your shoe together at the toe
Step 2 - Sewing the Upper to the Sole
Using thread matched to the sole colour we use a backstitch to attach the leather uppers to the sole. The leather sits inside the rim of the sole and the start hole on the sole is matched to the 'V' notch. The leather is eased into position as you go around so the holes match up with those in the sole. The heel piece is joined in at the appropriate place - there are marks on the sole to help you here
Step 3 - Sewing the Heel Seams
These are butted together and joined with running stitch. Starting at the top and doing a locking stitch over the seam at the top and bottom.
Step 4 - Attaching the collar
Make sure you have the 'V' notches along the long edge of the collar on the inside of the shoe. It is then attached to the shoe upper using running stitch and working from one end to the other and then returning, filling in the gaps. Take care to trap the loose ends from the heel seam under the collar.
Step 5 - Fitting the Comfort Insole
Pop the insole into the nearly completed shoe at this stage. Insert the toe first, trapping the loose thread ends from Step 2 underneath the insole, then press down the heel area
Step 6 - Sewing the Apron
This uses an unusual stitch, to fold the apron over the edge of the shoe upper and give a nice neat curve around the front of the shoe. It's not difficult at all and there are illustrations to guide you.
Congratulations!
You've now made your first shoe! Just add the laces and you'll be stepping out in style and comfort.
