IMPORT AND DUTY TAXES FOR CUSTOMERS OUTSIDE UK6th May 2026Why My European Customer Must Pay Import Duty on My British Products?European customers are required to pay import duty on British products due to the UK's exit from the EU Customs Union. This means that customs duties apply to goods imported into the EU, and the recipient is responsible for paying these duties at the point of entry. The UK has signed the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) with the EU, which provides preferential tariff rates for certain goods, but not all goods are exempt from customs duties. The amount of customs duty depends on the customs value of the goods, the tariff code, and the origin of the goods. If the goods originate from the UK or EU and meet the rules of origin set out in the TCA, they may qualify for reduced or zero customs duties. To claim preferential rates, a certificate of origin or a statement on the commercial invoice is needed.
